The town of Canterbury contained but ten families when it was endowed with town privileges in 1703. In 1714 Samuel Adams and Obadiah Johnson conveyed a farm of 136 acres to David Monroe,
by deed recorded in Canterbury.

In 1722 David and Deborah joined the church in Canterbury.
