Obituary: Death Of Mrs. Wesley Howard
Death claimed one of the city's well known and highly esteemed residents
in the passing of Mrs. Jennie Fencil Howard, wife of Wesley H. Howard, who
died at the family home, 714 North Center street at 11:40 o'clock Thursday
evening. Taken ill seven years ago last October, Mrs. Howard had been
confined to her home since that time. Rallying from occasional critical
spells during her long illness, she showed periodic improvement but never
recovered and was a patient sufferer during her extended affliction. Her
condition had been critical for some time and death was not unexpected.
Mrs. Howard was born in Oil City, April 7, 1892 spending her early life in
Erie. She was married to Wesley H. Howard of Corry on June 20, 1894 taking
up her residence in Corry where she had since lived. The deceased was long
active in Methodist church and club circles of the city. Until her health
forced a cessation of activities, Mrs. Howard was an active member of the
Methodist Church and was closely interested in it's various societies,
including the Alathians, the Woman's Missionary Society, etc., while she
was a former teacher of the Dorcas class. The deceased was a charter
member of the Historical Circle, with which was actively identified for a
number of years, and also of the Woman's Club, which she served as
president. She also was a past matron of the Corry chapter of the Eastern
Star. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. A.L. Young of
Corry, two sons, Harold F. Howard, of Flint, Mich, and Clifton M. Howard,
of Corry, and eight grandchildren. The body will be taken from the
Bracken-Keating funeral home the the family home on North Center street
Saturday morning where friends may call. Funeral services will be held
Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial following in Pine Grove
cemetery.
