Sarah Elizabeth Eggleston Nutting, widow of John Nutting, of Groton, Mass. Sarah Elizabeth Eggleston survived her husband. He was killed when a force of 400 Indians attacked his house, which was a fortified garrison, built like a blockhouse with projecting upper story, with loopholes in the walls for musketry and a stockade about it. It is said his head was severed and put on a pole. Sarah and their children escaped with others to the safer settlements. (Nutting Gen., p. 10.) |
She went to Woburn, where her sister Ruth Blodgett lived. (Boston and Eastern Mass., Vol. 2, pp. 608/9.) Inherited land from her husband, John Nutting. Landowner |
