Rulaf Chapin was born at the family home, about 1 ½ miles north of Union City. He lived there almost his entire life. He worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways for several years and then farmed the land where his mother and father moved to before he was born. He was a lifetime member of the Union City Fire Department and Moose Lodge 882 in Union City. He loved to argue politics and hardly ever missed the television show Jeopardy. Out of town relatives and friends would never even consider a visit to the area without a stop to see Uncle Rulaf and get into a debate with him on some subject.
