Obituary: Sammie Clair Brown Retired Dairy Farmer Sammie Clair Brown, 85, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Cambridge Springs after a year-long illness. He was born July 4, 1916 in Rockdale Township, Crawford County, son of the late Charles Clair and Edith May Bunce Brown. He had lived at 30984 Hogback Road, Cambridge Springs, for most of his life. He worked at General Electric Co. in Lawrence Park from 1940 to 1944 and then was a dairy farmer in Rockdale Township until his retirement in 1978. During most of those years he also worked for Rockdale Township as a road grader and plowing snow. He was a former member of the National Farmers Organization. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and pitching horseshoes. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Amelia Morton Brown, whom he married Nov. 26, 1938, and who died in 1996; and infant brother Charles Brown; two brothers, Seymour and Hermie Brown; and two sisters; Mildred Henry and Iva Blakeslee. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 335 Venango Ave, Cambridge Springs, and attend a service there Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Pat Ellis, pastor of Venango United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Millers Station Cemetery.
