Father of Mrs. Charles G. Hubbard Dies Friday
Herbert A. Sill, 78, father of Mr. Charles G. Hubbard, wife of McKean County's president judge, died at the Hubbard home, 9 Rose Hill Avenue at 7:45 a. m. Friday. He had been stricken with pneumonia last November 29, and had recovered, but his weakened condition confined him to his bed since that time. Born in Crawford County, July 21, 1860, he lived in Crawford County and in Union City until 1900, when he moved to Bradford. He resided in Bradford until 1912, when he went to Des Moines, Ia. While in the middle west, he was in charge of sales in the state of Iowa for the Nu-Bone Corset Company. He returned east in 1934 and made his home both in Union City and Kane, living with Judge and Mrs. Hubbard while in Kane. In August, 1937, he and Mrs. Sill took up their residence in Smethport with Judge and Mrs. Hubbard. Mr. Sill was a member of the Smethport Baptist Church. A man of high character, he was esteemed by his many friends. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Mary J. Sill; two daughters, Mrs. H. H. Hughes, of Des Moines and Mrs. Hubbard; eight grandchildren, Miss, Genevieve, Hubbard of West Englewood N.J., Miss Helen Hubbard of Philadelphia, Pa., Miss Mary Hubbard, of Smethport, Mrs. Robert Clagg and Edith, Robert and Frances Sill of Fort Dodge, Ia., and Robert Hughes of Omaha, Neb., and one great-grandson, Richard Hughes of Omaha. Funeral services were held Friday morning at the home of his daughter at 10:00 o'clock with a prayer service, the Rev. George M. Saul, pastor of the East Brady Baptist Church, and former Smethport Baptist Church pastor, officiating.
Pallbearers were Francis Duffey, J. Allison, Daniel Bloomster, EG. Potter, C. W. Shattuck and L. W. Barton. The remains were taken to Union City, where a further service took place at the Glenn funeral home. The Rev. G. E. Dupree pastor of the Union City Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers were Rouluff Chapin, Merrill Miller, R. S. Peterson and Albert Smith. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Union City.
