The CRAWFORD JOURNAL - October 6, 1892 "During last night's thunder storm, about 7:30 in the evening, lightening struck the store building of Collins Brothers. Passing down the chimney it followed the pipe to the stove in the hall, and from there dashed downward through the floor. Striking a wire that is stretched through the building, one current passed through the front of the building, smashing the large plate glass and into the ground. The other current went the opposite direction. The wire is fastened to a post down which it dashed and struck Hugh McKay, who was resting against the post. Next to Mr. McKay sat Jas. B. McKay, a son of John B., who was instantly killed. Hugh McKay was also very badly injured, but it is believed he may recover." Source: Jack Moselle |
