Valley Pioneers Married 60 Years
An open house was held to honor the 60th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Forest Walker. The celebration was held at Desert Crest, a retirement community in Desert Hot Springs. The Forests, who were married in 1916 lived in Baldwin Park for more then 50 years before moving to the desert. Mrs. Walker moved to Baldwin Park with her parents in 1912 from Walla Walla Washington to attend State Normal School (teachers college) which later became Los Angeles City College. Walker moved to Baldwin Park in 1902 from Indiana where his father owned a meat market. During their life together, Mrs. Walker taught in surrounding schools and did clerical work for the state prison system for 17 years. Walker owned Walker Gravel Plant, a grocery store and a service station. He worked at a state relief camp in administration and for the city health department for 10 years. They have been affiliated with the Baldwin Park Boys Club, Boy Scouts, Masons, Eastern Star and Methodist Church. Walker was on the school board. The couple have three children; Frances Garrow of Baldwin Park; Forest Walker Jr. of Tujunga and Peggy Crenshaw of San Dimas. They have eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
