William D. Barton, 88, El Dorado, Sacramento cattleman dies.
Funeral services were held at East Lawn in Sacramento for William D. Barton, 88, El Dorado and Sacramento Counties rancher, who died Friday in his home at Carson Creek near Folsom. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Barton was born in White Rock. He was one of 11 children born to the late Hiram Emmett and Margaret Ann Barton. Hiram Barton had come to Sacramento in 1856 and settled on Deer Creek, having come west from Iowa in 1853 over the Oregon Trail. He had been the driver of a 10 ox team en route. The ranch which William Barton operated near Folsom was the one his father had started 100 years before. During his adult years, Mr. Barton had ranged cattle in the Carson Creek area as well as on large sections of El Dorado County near Latrobe and Shingle Springs. Among others, he had leased the Jack Wallace Ranch near Shingle Springs. Mr. Barton was the father of Fay Ledbetter of Elk Grove and Alva Barton of Carson Creek and the foster father of Jesse Ricola of Carson Creek. He was the grandfather of William Ledbetter of Tahoe Valley and Melba Qauida Mosher of Elk Grove. He also leaves three great-grandchildren. His wife, the late Quida Barton, preceded him in death 19 months ago.
