Military: World War II – Received the Bronze Star. He was in the Army in the Anti-tank Co 129 Infantry, 37 Division in Luzon, Philippine Islands. Was in a special platoon that went ahead of the soldiers to check for mine fields and booby traps. They would set up dynamite charge and blow up the mines. Laurance retired from the Associated Springs Barnes Group, Corry, PA on July 1, 1978 after over 37 years of service there. He was very active in local politics and loved camping/traveling. He was a former radio officer of the Corry Civil Defense and was an amateur radio operator. He was a member of several local organizations and a past member of the Corry Planning Commission. | ||
The funeral service for Laurance R. Barton was held at the Bracken Funeral Home on Friday, November 30, 1990. The 11 a. m. service was officiated by Rev. James Hamilton. Serving as bearers were William Barton, John Barton III, Donald Barton, LeRoy Hamilton, David Wellman, Calvin Kerstetter and Robert Bair. Special music selected as a part of the service was: "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", Burial was made in West Lawn Cemetery – Columbus, PA | ||
