Howard Lafayette Whitford

Obituary:  Howard L. Whitford, 86 of Iroquois Ave., Harborcreek, died Wednesday at St. Vincent Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Harborcreek Feb. 5, 1881 he resided there most of his life. Mr. Whitford was a retired Harborcreek Township employee and served as township supervisor for 12 years. The Howard Whitford Park in Harborcreek is named after him and he was further honored in October 1967 when he was chosen to break ground for the new Harborcreek Municipal Building. Survivors include his wife Marie Young Whitford, two daughters, Mrs. William (Margaret) Boniger and Mrs. Harold (Gladys) Southard, both of Erie, four sons, Kenneth and Leo Whitford, both of Erie, Robert Whitford of Ripley, NY, and Gordon Whitford of San Diego Calif., one stepdaughter, Mrs. Donald (Hazel) Bartlett of Harborcreek, three sisters, Annie Whitford of Mayville, NY, Mrs. Laura Kaness and Mrs. Ralph (Mabel) Dougan both of Harborcreek, four brothers, Alfred Whitford of North East, Alton, Lester and Clyde Whitford, all of Erie; 20 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Friends may call at the C. J. Dusckas Funeral Home, 2607 Buffalo Rd. today and Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services there Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by Requiem Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Bartlett Rd. at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Gregory Cemetery
