Obituary: Alton R. Whitford, 81, of 2306 Wagner Ave., died Saturday evening at Hamot Medical Center. He was born in Harborcreek Township, January 16, 1893, the son of the late Lafayette and Philena Palmer Whitford. He lived in Harborcreek and moved to North East in 1918. He had lived in Erie since 1928. He was employed at the International Harvester Co. for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1958. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Mose Whitford and is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James (Dorothy) Steinhoff, with whom he resided, a grandson, David J. Steinhoff, State College; three sisters, Miss. Anna Whitford, Westfield, N. Y., Mrs. Laura Kaness, Harborcreek, and Mrs. Ralph (Mabel) Dougan, North East; two brothers, Alfred Whitford, North East, and Clyde Whitford, Harborcreek Twp., and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas – Bailey Funeral Home, 2607 Buffalo Rd. Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 tp 9 p.m., where services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. by Rev. Ralph Storm, Interment will be in North East Cemetery.
