Obituary: Alfred S. Whitford, 88, 14 Pershing, North East, died Thursday evening at his home. He was born in Harborcreek on Sept. 17, 1891, son of the late Lafayette H. and Philenam Whitford. He lived in the Harborcreek and North East area all his life. He was a member of F&AM Lodge, 399 in North East, Zem Zem Temple Shrine and the Ancient Accepted Scotish Rite Valley of Erie. For many years he was a projection operator for Kellys Theater in North East. He served 14 years on the North East Borough Council and an honorary the Fuller Hose Co. in North East for 25 years. He was a self employed mechanic in North East from 1929 until his retirement in 1956. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Pearl B. Wheeler Whitford; a son, Robert Whitford; Miami, Fla.; a step daughter, Mrs. Lucille Desin, North East; a brother, Clyde Whitford, Erie; and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Dougan, North East. Friends may call at William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake, North East, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lincoln Pyle of the Church of God officiating. Burial will be in North East Cemetery. F&AM Lodge 399 will conduct Masonic services Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. | |
