| Obituary: Dean O. "Deano" Rice, of Girard, formerly of Lawrence Park Township, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 1996, at Western Reserve Convalescent Center. He was born in Union City, on Feb. 10, 1913, son of the late Dan and Myrna Chapin Rice. A lifelong resident of the Erie area, Mr. Rice worked for the General Electric Co. for 29 years, retiring in 1975. Then worked for Sears Roebuck Co. He was a social member of American Legion Carl Neff Post 571, he belonged to the Siebenburger Club and was a life member of Star Athletic Club. He enjoyed golf and bowling. He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah "Sally" Rice, four sisters, Mildred, Genevieve, and Mary Rice and Ethel Baldwin; and two brothers, Walter and Bernie Rice. Survivors include two sisters, Gladys Schaack of Kent, Ohio, and Myrtle Holtz and her husband Don of Millcreek, a brother, Herb Rice and his wife Jean of Erie, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Duskas Funeral Home East, 2607 Buffalo Road, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and from 7 until the time of the service there at 8:30 p.m. The Rev. Ernest Staaf of Southside Baptist Church will officiate. Private burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
