Obituary:
Mrs. Harriet Spencer Brown, wife of the late Chauncey Brown, passed away Tuesday December 17, 1917, at the home of her son, Addsion Brown, near Sturgis, after a painful illness of over a year of a cancer affection of the face. Funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased on Tuesday afternoon, at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. J. Warner and were attended by a large gathering of old friends and relatives. The interment was made on the family lot beside the husband and child in the Chapinville cemetery. So after a long and useful life, she died as she had lived, honored and respected by all who knew her.  Harriet Spencer Brown was born in Wayne township near Corry, March 31, 1840 and was 77 years, 8 months and 17 days at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late William O. and Lucretia Drake Spencer. When a young woman she was united in marriage to Chauncey Brown, and had been a resident of Sturgis since a girl of twelve years. To this union were born four children, two sons, Addison and Dewitt Brown of Sturgis who survive the mother. She is survived by four brothers, Frank and Charles Spencer of Erie, Will and Edwin Spencer of Corry, and one sister, Mrs. Pastorette Spencer Sabin of the Springs. The deceased was at one time a member of the M. E. church at this place and was a devout follower of her Lord and Master, waiting patiently to be called to her heavenly home, but her suffering is all over and she is at rest in her Father's Home with those she has loved, who have gone on before, where all is joy, happiness and sunshine.
