Obituary: Ford Persons Dies In Canada While Hunting. Body Plunges into
Water After Fatal Heart Attack. A moose hunting and fishing trip in
Canada proved a fatal excursion for a well known Erie man. Ford A.
Persons, fifty two, 629 E. 28th St., foreman of a line crew at
the Pennsylvania Electric Co., who suffered a heart attack while in a boat
near Nakina, Ontario. A telegram sent by the police department at Nakina,
eight hundred miles north of Toronto, was received this morning by the
family informing them of the death… Body Recovered… Persons and Carlton S.
Wells of the Wells Dry Cleaning Co. left Erie a week ago Wednesday for the
Canadian hunting country and had planned to return Saturday. They were in
a boat when Persons suffered a heart attack and fell overboard. The body
was recovered "shortly" after it hit the water. An inquest conducted in
the Canadian city revealed that the heart attack caused the death and that
Persons was dead when his body hit the water. The remains were
shipped this morning from Nakina and will arrive in Erie Thursday for
funeral services. Arrangements are in charge of the MacLeod Funeral Home,
536 W. 10th St and are to be completed upon arrival of the
body…Here 30 years…… Mr. Persons came to Erie thirty years ago from Union
City and had since lived here, He was well known through his association
with the Erie County Electric Co. and through his activity in the
Christian and Missionary Alliance church, of which he was a devout member.
He served regularly as a lay preacher and was identified with the
activities of the Alliance churches throughout the this section. Surviving
are is wife, Murial Persons, a daughter Mrs. R. R. Kauffman, wife of the
Rev. R.R. Kauffman, pastor of the Gospel Tabernacle of Union City; one
grandchild Reese Kauffman; and a son Wayne Persons who is attending
missionary training school at Nyak, NY. A daughter Gaynell Mae Persons
died in December 1941 following an automobile accident in Boston. |
